Since 2016, the Hill County Youth Football league has built is championship football and cheer squads om the idea that. "It Starts Here" and in welcoming our players, cheerleaders and parents to the current season, the tradition lives on.

Welcome to Hill Country Youth Football League (HCYFL). We are a grade first league that promotes loyalty to our school districts. We develop kids in the sound fundamentals of football in an environment that creates pride in each association’s hometown team. We have 2 Divisions in HCYFL and use the UIL enrollment numbers to determine which division each association will compete in. HCYFL is the Premier Youth Football League in the Texas Hill Country. We are currently composed of 23 organizations. HCYFL adheres to UIL rank order to classify Division I and Division II.

We are composed entirely of associations that adhere to school feeder systems. We believe in developing a local football community and culture that the children will carry on when they enter the school that they play for. HCYFL is a competitive league, however, the development of young players always comes first. We believe that we have the perfect balance and a natural progression that brings children from the fundamentals of football to full UIL rules as they move up through our divisions.

We believe that children of all sizes should be able to play football. We are an unlimited weight league, however, have placed reasonable restrictions on the backfield/ball carrying positions. Wise balance is the thread throughout our league.

We believe that 8 to 9 games are an appropriate length of a tackle season for youth football players. Therefore, a typical season consists of 7 regular season games, a semifinal playoff game or a bowl game to give a team 8 games. Teams that advance from the semifinals get a 9th game for championships. This is the right amount of tackle football to give the players a great experience and at the same time leave them hungry for more when the season is completed.

The HCYFL was founded in 2016. At that time there were several different leagues in the Hill Country, but with declining football participation numbers many organizations struggled to produce consistent and safe team numbers year in and year out. Each league did offer different benefits but lacked in other areas, there was no best league in regard to structure, competition, and administration. After several meetings between some major players, it was confirmed that the need for a new BEST league was imperative. During the initial development of the league structure, it was noticed that the most successful well-run organizations were of the FEEDER type attached to local High Schools. This feeder mentality of attaching youth football programs to high schools would become the focus and direction of the new league.

In 2016, the HCYFL went to work with 15 organizations. Many skeptics downplayed the development of this great league and its potential. Those founding organizations knew a drastic change to youth football in the area was on the horizon.

In 2020, the HCYFL was able to play the season safely during the Pandemic. The league continued to play with 60 teams and would have more if not such a unique year.

In 2023, the HCFYL has grown to over 23 feeder organizations with over 88 feeder teams this fall.

Many of our league organizations work directly with the local school districts for practice and game facilities. The structure of the UIL for High School sports directly affects the league and our organizations. It is particularly important that we monitor the UIL guidelines and schedules. All organizations Presidents, Directors and Coaches are responsible for the management of these guidelines. It is important and required that all parents and spectators are informed of the guidelines prior to entering any practice or game.

The UIL have provided a youth sports participation guideline. All organizations must familiarize themselves with these guidelines and implement them in their training, practice, and game structure. The guidelines are the minimum standard that everyone should follow. It is highly recommended that additional precautions be taken above and beyond the guidelines. Anyone participating in any activity understands there is a risk of exposure and accepts thatresponsibility.
